Recognizing the fact, the author is then motivated to write this textbook for
two main purposes, namely:
-To provide students majoring in English language education department
with basic, comprehensive descriptions of language and linguistics.
-To give adequate explanationsabout the relationship between linguistics
and e nglish language teaching.
